Eternal Void - Serenity in the Black (EV Records) In a scene where so many heavy bands fall into the same, mundane routine of sound it’s always nice when one is a breath of fresh air. Serenity in the Black felt different than the loads of other metal-aligned acts that released this week, it’s a bit hard to describe but definitely give this a try. Evanescence - The Bitter Truth If you had told me that in 2021 this band would end up on a list of music I enjoyed over the past week I’d probably have not believed you. Yet here we are. Evanescence doesn’t try to pretend their reinventing the wheel between albums and maybe that’s what makes the familiar sounds that they always push sound so welcoming. You know what this album sounds like, but the songs are still good so it deserves it’s time. Origami Button - No Parking If you like bands like Hail the Sun, Royal Coda, things like that this will definitely be for you. Swancore feel yet with it’s own feel about. A bit relaxed in nature compared...

My Votes for the Scene Daddy Music Awards and Why

For this week’s (ha, implying I actually finish two posts a week) additional post I wanted to do something a bit different. Normally I review whatever records I’m listening to a bit more than normal and of course we go over the weekly winners each week as well. The thing there is you guys don’t get to hear much of my opinions beyond what I like. So, I thought it’d be fun to go over the categories presented and make my case for why you should, or should not vote for each of my choices. You can vote for these categories here all week and we’re gonna go over them a bit rapidly below. Normally I try to make this nice and presentable with images and things like that but I wanted to get thi...

This was a weird, sleeper week for me personally. I knew the scene at large was really looking forward to ERRA this week but wasn’t really part of the hype there. That being said still had some good stuff to listen to this week! Looking forward to a lot of singles in the coming week too. As always let me know if there’s something you think I’ve missed. In other news, working on two posts that aren’t my usual report or review. Hoping to get more of my opinions of some not so new stuff out there. Look forward to it! ERRA - ERRA (UNFD) Like the First and Forever EP last week the community is very excited for this one and I’m not trying to take that away from anyone! I enjoyed my time on this record this week. Don’t think it’ll be an on repeat for me throughout the year but there is so much good here. Definitely give it a shot if you’re in the mood for something heavy. LANDMVRKS - Lost in the Waves (Arising Empire) Now this heavy album I think will stick with me a bit more. You don’t...
