Best of Month: AotY #12: Otoboke Beaver's "Super Champon" via Damnably

For the May micros episode this year I was caught between two records that I wanted to cover and not wanting the burden of the choice, I passed the decision along to a friend of mine. She felt a lot stronger about this record than the other one I had chosen and so it was the one I covered and I was pretty relieved when she picked this one. It left a much stronger impression on me than the other record, notably nowhere on this list. Four months later me and that friend were dating and in a polycule together, which I had no idea how to navigate and could probably be its own writing project. I have a lot of these write ups dedicated to stories with my partner though and I want to use this one to highlight my friendship with her other partner.

When it was decided I would move out west, before we were even a three person family dynamic, my other soon-to-be housemate knew I liked music, knew we both liked Otoboke Beaver and bought the three of us tickets to see them when they were touring through our city that fall. By the time the show came around, as I said, her girlfriend was mine too, we had one of the best nights of our lives so far out here. We got so close to the stage, something I could never dream of with my last partner. We started a crowd stomp out.

I guess what I’m trying to say is; I’m so thankful for this woman’s friendship with me. I’m thankful she allowed me to move into her home to escape abuse and a life I was dissatisfied with. I’m thankful she helped make sure I was fed while I looked for a job and asked for nothing in return. I’m thankful she gives me rides whenever she’s available. I’m thankful that she trusted me to be the first person she was on the other end of a polycule with. I was so thankful she shared a night of music with me that I took the three of us to an illuminati hotties show a month after the fact.

So thank you, this one is dedicated to you.
