Wave Break start spring off with a spark
Wave Break is making a huge splash right now, having toured around the east coast including legendary NJ venues Stone Pony and House of Independents. Today they deliver new single "Spark" brought to you by their new permanent line up as well as the team over at ZK Productions who have worked with bands like Mayday Parade and Set it Off. I was fortunate enough to hear "Spark" a little early and feel really positive about the track as a whole.
"Spark" opens with a nice, hopeful pop punk riff with some pretty intensive blast beat percussion in the background. This hopeful nature carries with the song's themes of wanting to fast forward through the bad straight to the good that life has to offer. It continues with just that energy and a bass riff that makes for an excellent segue from that intro. While I do not love the opening rhyme scheme;
I’ve rebuilt this house so many times
It fell each time right before my eyes
I do love Kelly’s (Barber, singer, guitar player, songwriter) performances on this song, it may be her best vocals we’ve yet to hear. I also love how she presents the overall messaging; life is meant to be learned from and approached with a new mentality following past mistakes.
There's another, even stronger, sequence here with a short guitar riff then a belted chorus that digs that lesson even deeper; sometimes it's best to let go and let things blow up so that you can build from the wreckage. I also really appreciate the little circle pit opportunity the band is letting breathe right after.
Verse two is spiced up with some alternate melodies, some guitar licks and other little enhancements. I actually enjoy the post chorus even more the second time around where Wave Break turns that segue guitar part into a whole realized interlude that takes us to that final leg.
"Spark" is easily my favorite Wave Break song to date. It's a great summer anthem and honestly has already really motivated me to not give up on some hopes and aspirations on a personal note. Sometimes things blow up in your face but the spare parts can be used for something wonderful. You can listen to "Spark" now and look forward to a new Wave Break EP being worked on. And if you're on the east coast you can catch them on tour later this month with Serious Matters. We'll link all of that below. And I want to thank Kelly for trusting us with this one a little early as well.
