Last week in music, 9/19/21 - 9/25/21

Badflower - THIS IS HOW THE WORLD ENDS (Big Machine / John Varvatos)

I am very unsure what to make of this. On one hand it’s sonically very strong, good songwriting and keeps that radio rock vibe without sounding like just another band at the alt fest. On the other hand there's some themes here that are a little unhinged and I do understand that they’re being presented in an ironic way but once in a while it feels not so jokey and maybe as a bit harmful.

Poppy - Flux (Sumerian)

Normally Poppy is a huge artist for me and I really look forward to each release. The three singles leading up to this left me less than excited. The first listen through of the album left me pretty underwhelmed but second and on I enjoyed it more and more. I think part of the disappointment here is coming off of great projects like Am I a Girl, I Disagree and Eat a project that’s just good and not great can be a bit disappointing. Appreciating the album for what it is, a cool indie rock record, it has a lot of highs.

rationale. - If the Problems Persist

Sort of out of nowhere, rationale. has dropped their second record. If you’re unaware of this supergroup it is Dan Lampton formerly of Real Friends (who dropped their return EP last week, actually!) as well as Joe Taylor and Ryan Rumchaks of Knuckle Puck. If you enjoy any of those bands, you will enjoy this as it’s all the same type and quality of stuff.

Janelle Monae - Say Her Name (Hell You Talmbout)

Don't really want to say much here as the activism involved in the track isn't my place to speak. I would advise you listen to this though as it's message is powerful.

This week’s most anticipated: illuminati hotties - Let Me Do One More (Snack Shack Tracks)
