Trash Boat - Don’t You Feel Amazing? (Hopeless Records)

Been waiting on this one awhile and it did not disappoint. My only nitpick is there were a lot of singles on this and they were really stacked in the front. By the time you get to side b you’ve only heard two new songs? Really craved that Christmas morning feeling.



Unreqvited - Beautiful Ghosts (Prophecy Productions)

Normally I don’t really like black metal (with a few exceptions) but this one is really interesting. This is a Canadian solo artist who set out to write a record about love, which the genre doesn’t really touch upon. It’s honestly really compelling and the instrumentation sounds so full of hope while still being heavy.


If I Die First - They Drew Blood

New EP by the collaborative project between Lil Lotus and From First to Last. More of the same from their EP last year and their split this year. (There’s even a Connie Sgarbossa feature) Still it’s worth checking out especially if you miss that MySpace heavy sound.



Meet Me @ The Altar - Model Citizen (Fueled by Ramen)

More easycore for you! This time a debut EP from a new FbR signing. Don’t think they need my intro though as this band has been blowing up lately and even has a pretty big tour with Coheed & Cambria and The Used this fall. Lots of great performances and the energy doesn’t stop on this one.


Eidola - Hidden Worship / Perennial Philosophy (Rise Records)

Eidola has given us two preview for the new record and it continues to sound like it’s going to be worth the wait. I want to comment on “Hidden Worship” especially though as it’s the first track of the album and I wish we could have waited to hear it and it very much feels like an album intro. Still looking forward to the record and it’s only about a month away at this point.

Ice Nine Kills - Assault & Batteries (Fearless Records)

This is a much better, less cheesy song than the last single. However! The cheesiness is still there. It’s so hard to listen to these tracks with the horror movie ambiance around them like the cut out newscasts. Kind of wish there were single versions of these tracks as I feel that’s more so an album experience thing.

Best of Month; the Top 10 Albums of 2023

2023 has come to a close and it was a lot to unpack. After relocating last year I had to figure out what to do next, admittedly a scarier process than moving itself. I’ve settled in now, changes have gone on, there were a lot of hard times and a lot of great memories made throughout the year. You may have noticed, if you’re a long-time reader, I was far less open about my own personal life in my reviews. If you’re new and this is your first year here, then hey you never knew this part of the blog. In these blurbs there are personal anecdotes, but they are far less revealing. Regardless, thank you for even clicking here. This year for my own writing was possibly the best yet. I reviewed more albums in one year than ever before and worked with ten artists to promote their stuff before the release date. If all the stars align there’s one more thing coming out this year. Best of Month: The final reviews of the year

Best of Month! We wrote so many reviews this year there were a ton leftover. So, to open the year end stuff this year, we're emptying the vault. There are a few pre-requisites for reading this year (but only if you came from Reddit) So look for that below. From Reddit? Start here! Rat Jesu - Prepared to Die (Drixxo Lords) I have been a pretty public cybergrind defender on the timeline, but in all honesty I haven’t dug into the genre on my own time. I’m not sure if you would consider Rat Jesu cybergrind but they’re definitely part of the movement, in fact I came to this record by following this artist from a feature on the newest Blind Equation. As I said above, Prepared to Die isn’t so much cybergrind but it is a neat, quick nu metal record with hyperpop influence. James from Blind Equation does show up as a feature and the song he’s on is a hit regardless of genre.
