Last Week in Music, week of 6/27/21 - 7/3/21

As we enter the throes of summer, releases other than singles will largely die down until the fall. This is mainly because it’s wiser for numbers to release early in the summer. With that said, expect these posts to mostly talk about just songs, with I’m sure some expectations, until the explosive September we have coming up.

Eidola - Counterfeit Shrines (Rise Records)

Unless you’ve been living under a rock on the alternative side of Twitter for the last year and a half, you’d know the situation with Eidola’s upcoming record The Architect. To sum up, the record has been ready for a long time, Rise Records withheld it, meme culture took over. Suddenly, however, fans started questioning the situation and the very next day this single dropped. This track is good, like really good, like it’s hard to see a label holding this for so long. I urge you to check this out and pre-order if you can. I’ve only scratched the surface of the situation Eidola is in and Rise Records seems to be purposely pitting them against their biggest signing of the past year.

Poppy - Her (Sumerian Records)

Just weeks after the Eat EP Poppy drops a new song, this time in a more punk-leaning style. With the sound of it and the fact that she just dropped another cover recently I thought that this was a cover but she is credited as writer so it’s an original. I prefer the EP to this but more tracks is a good sign for another busy year.

Tenacious D - You Never Give Me Your Money/The End

Tenacious D teased a “tribute to The Beatles” which is a pretty vague statement. It’s an old school sounding D song, just acoustic guitar and vocals, in the style of a Beatles song. It’s comedic as all of their songs are but for what it’s going for? I’m pretty into it.

Other

Capstan - alone (feat. Shane Told, Fearless Records)

Descendants - Like the Way I Know (Epitaph)

Magdalena Bay - Chaeri (Luminelle Records)

Rico Nasty - Magic (Atlantic Records)

Settle Your Scores - The Way Things Used to Be (Mutant League)
