Attila - Closure

Attila’s been around for awhile and hasn't been known for well respected albums in the past few years. While I can’t deny that the musicianship is there, this is just another dud. The personality that this band puts up was fun at first but it’s just overstayed its welcome and is never presented in a fresh way. That and there’s just a lot of awkward decisions going on. Fronz coughing once if it fits the song? Fine probably would work. Multiple times? It got old before even the first listen through of thirty minutes was up.

Brojob - THE HEAVIEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME (Hallowed Records)

There’s a lot of hype around deathcore at the moment between all the huge releases and Lorna Shore having a top 10 song on streaming services. That’s all great! It’s just not a genre I usually cover as it’s not one I go to myself. Brojob is the brutal riffs and other heavy music associated with the genre but in a laid back, comedic way that just makes it for me easier to swallow and doesn’t take itself so seriously.

Capstan - SEPARATE (Fearless Records)

This is my first Capstan record and to be honest it’s sort of a mixed bag. There are plenty of stand out moments on this thing, take “take my breath away // noose” and “blurred around the edges” for example. There’s also a lot of duds.

Descendents - 9th & Walnut (Epitaph)

Classic punk band Descendents are known for releasing music in a spread out fashion and this one comes five years after their last record. It’s sort of a special one though, made up mostly of newly recorded, unreleased material from the band’s earliest years. Also the first with the original line-up since 1996.

Against the Current - Fever (Fueled by Ramen)

Haven’t really been a fan of Against the Current in the past so this one surprised me. More of an emo and alt rock sound than the synthpop they’ve done in the past. Will have my full thoughts on this in the coming week.

Lil Nas X - INDUSTRY BABY (feat. Jack Harlow, Columbia Records)

As if “MONTERO” didn’t blow up enough, Lil Nas X comes through with even more of a genius marketing move. Not only did he tease this song on social media by featuring in Tik Toks going back to last year and even quoting it in tweets all that time ago, he also faked an entire court case to get attention on a song. Claiming to be getting sued by Nike for the “MONTERO” merch, it turned out to be a prison themed music video. The song is also good enough to justify that huge elaborate story.
