Last Week in Music, 7/11/21 - 7/17/21

Just when I thought; “summer is here, these coming couple of months won’t really be packed,” we hit a week like this. There are so many releases that came out last week to check out. Did many stick with me? Well let’s look into that! July also has some heat left so make sure you stay tuned for the next couple weeks as well.

Boys Night Out - Nevermind 2

Canadian post-hardcore classics in Boys Night Out have taken to re-record some material from their early demos and EPs and packaged it together with the original versions! If you’ve never heard their stuff and want a place to start, this new release could do that for you.

chloe moriondo - blood bunny (acoustic, Fueled by Ramen)

Blood Bunny is currently my second favorite record of 2020 so far and if you’ve followed along you’ve heard me talk to death about it. This EP is just a fun little project where chloe and Cavetown take 4 of the 13 tracks from there and offer acoustic renditions. It’s a fun little EP if you liked it originally.

Fox Lake - Lady Luck (Modern Empire Music)

Short but definitely not little hardcore EP which constantly reminds you “the system doesn’t give a fuck about you.” Not a crazy amount to tell you about in the twelve minutes but if you like heavy this is definitely a place to go.

Until I Wake - Until I Wake (Fearless Records)

If you’re looking to get in on the ground floor with a newer band, Until I Wake has just this one EP out. Classic sounding post-hardcore and a fresh artist.

YONAKA - Seize the Power (Creature Records)

YONAKA dropped this mixtape with various songs from a variety of sounds. Not really sure how to tackle a mixtape situation but it’s good! Check it out!

Attack Attack! - Fade with Me (Oxide Records)

Attack Attack! They’re at it again! What are they at? Some bad PR. Attack Attack! hyped up this track over the course of a week or so saying it’s total EDM and that the haters weren’t ready and all the stuff they love to say since cash grabbing their band name and guess what? It’s just an Attack Attack! song. It’s got some electronics, it’s a bit alternative, it’s nothing that the old band and them haven’t done before, getting sort of tired of this in house stirred controversy.

Memphis May Fire - Death Inside (Rise Records)

Second single from this upcoming Memphis May Fire record where they return to their former glory by going back to the roots of their sound. This one is a bit better than the last but if I’m being honest it just sounds like a Fever 333 song Matty Mullens is even impersonating Jason Butler in the first verse.

Sunrise Skater Kids - What’s My Age Again? (blink-182 cover, Chodezilla Records)

In response to Mark Hoppus starting his battle against cancer, Sunrise Skater Kids have covered the blink classic with all profits from streaming being donated to cancer research and treatment. Spin the shit out of this and fuck cancer.
