Weekly Winners, week of 5/23/21 - 5/29/21

 We had a massive week for albums last week across all sorts of genres. If you missed that post, go check it out. I promise you you will find something you like within. This week we come to the end of our two month streak of anticipated releases. That being said, this week turned out pretty nice so check that and our final anticipated release until the fall.

Hot Mulligan - I Won’t Reach Out to You

Our final release in the string of huge releases! Hot Mulligan released a great record last year and I was very much looking forward to what they did next. We talked about “Featuring Mark Hoppus” when it dropped and it might be one of my favorite tracks of the year.



Of Mice & Men - Bloom (SHARPTONE)

The second in this series of EPs Of Mice has planned this year has dropped. It’s another 3 track festivalcore sounding one, which I think is just the point. Feels weird to release these as EPs as they’ll likely just be long enough to be a full length with the same vibe.



Four Year Strong - BRNPM RMX (Pure Noise Records)

Four Year Strong offers 3 remixes from their album last year, Brain Pain. These are fun renditions but mainly make me want to listen to the old record.



Kurt Travis & Zachary Garren - Fun & Games

The duo that helped bring you the 2009 classic album Happiness (and more) are back together with this, self-described, “new-old EP!” This is a collection of tracks the two have collaborated on over the years that never saw an official release.



Eminem - Killer (remix, feat. Jack Harlow & Cordea, Aftermath/Interscope Records)

Before we get into this, I am not an Eminem fan. Everything he does has aged like milk. To be honest, he isn’t even good here. It’s these features and the first half of the track that I really vibe with.



Poppy - Fear of Dying (Jack Off Jill cover, Sumerian Records)

Normally I wouldn’t write on a cover. (Though, noticing a lot of people think this is an original track.) I threw this in here because I want to comment on Poppy’s vocal performance here. She’s always been a great singer yes but I’m noticing between this and the Grammy performance the vocals have been getting better and better and I’m really excited for this album coming.

Best of Month; the Top 10 Albums of 2023

2023 has come to a close and it was a lot to unpack. After relocating last year I had to figure out what to do next, admittedly a scarier process than moving itself. I’ve settled in now, changes have gone on, there were a lot of hard times and a lot of great memories made throughout the year. You may have noticed, if you’re a long-time reader, I was far less open about my own personal life in my reviews. If you’re new and this is your first year here, then hey you never knew this part of the blog. In these blurbs there are personal anecdotes, but they are far less revealing. Regardless, thank you for even clicking here. This year for my own writing was possibly the best yet. I reviewed more albums in one year than ever before and worked with ten artists to promote their stuff before the release date. If all the stars align there’s one more thing coming out this year. Best of Month: The final reviews of the year

Best of Month! We wrote so many reviews this year there were a ton leftover. So, to open the year end stuff this year, we're emptying the vault. There are a few pre-requisites for reading this year (but only if you came from Reddit) So look for that below. From Reddit? Start here! Rat Jesu - Prepared to Die (Drixxo Lords) I have been a pretty public cybergrind defender on the timeline, but in all honesty I haven’t dug into the genre on my own time. I’m not sure if you would consider Rat Jesu cybergrind but they’re definitely part of the movement, in fact I came to this record by following this artist from a feature on the newest Blind Equation. As I said above, Prepared to Die isn’t so much cybergrind but it is a neat, quick nu metal record with hyperpop influence. James from Blind Equation does show up as a feature and the song he’s on is a hit regardless of genre.
