Weekly Winners, week of 3/7/21 - 3/13/21

Sorry we’re late this week! Working on a longer post and had some work responsibilities so fell a bit behind! Hope everyone’s enjoying some new stuff.

Riley! - Already Fucked

I’ve been really enjoying this fun, sort of self deprecating rock sound as of late. Sort of comparable to FIDLAR or The Dirty Nil record from just a few months ago. Also A+ on the song titles for this one really phoning in that early 2000s sense of not taking it too seriously.

Rob Zombie - The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Theory (Nuclear Blast)

General media legend Rob Zombie has released his new record. To be honest I didn’t realize he was still recording music. A nice thing about Rob Zombie is he’s one of the few figures of his scene that haven’t just fallen into being angry with the younger generation and this record is proof of that. Does not feel like a throwaway at all and just really good songs overall.

First and Forever - Let This Love Lie Dead (Adventure Cat Records)

New EP from First and Forever, been seeing a little bit of hype around this. Perfect short little release if you like things like All Time Low and those sort of emo, alt-rock projects. Foresee this band blowing up upon a future full length or just with the return of live shows.

Future Teens - Deliberately Alive (Take This to Your Grave Records)

Over the past few months we’ve gotten two singles from here, “Guest Room and “Play Cool.” I didn’t highlight them but I certainly enjoyed them a lot and put them in the other tracks section and to be honest “Guest Room” might be one of my favorite songs of the year so far. Very good indie rock EP, another short one this week. Two vocalists that switch off between tracks and ends in a cover of a Cher classic. Also from Boston, which to me personally is a go to for live music when it happens so I'm really hoping to catch this band in the after-times.

Laura Les - Haunted (Dog Show Records)

You know, I always thought the stagnation in 100 gecs sound was completely on Dylan Brady and, while this is a good song, I see now it’s both of them. This just sounds like a 100 gecs song.

SION - The Blade

New project from ex-Killswitch Engage frontman Howard Jones. Basically just sounds like a Killswitch track but a bit heavier and much more well composed.
