Weekly Winners, week 2/21/21 - 2/27/21 (for real this time)
Hello, hope your week is going well! So last week we jumped ahead on the dates so that post is a little incorrect. That being said we had a huge week! I knew it was going to be and I had so much I wanted to jump into so I’m really hoping I can get you all to something you will like. I feel like this was the week that started to craft my year end lists and I’m excited to bring this to you.
Alice Cooper - Go Man Go (Edel Germany GmbH)
Classic heavy metal star Alice Cooper released this new record Detroit Stories which… frankly is a mess as these old musician’s work tends to be. However this track is a short, sweet thrashy number and I feel it's worth a listen. The rest of the album is not and I truly cannot stress that enough.
Architects - For Those Who Wish to Exist (Epitaph)
New Architects is here. You know what it is, you know what side you’re on. Never really enjoyed a full length from the band as much as I did this one so I guess I’m on the side that this is great and I can’t wait to see the scene needlessly hate each other for six months like amo round two.
Goody Grace - Don’t Forget Where You Came From (Atlantic Recording Corporation)
Saw hype for this floating around based on a variety of things, the features mainly. Album is a bit spotty but overall very good! Not really sure what genre I’d report it as but it has elements of alternative and hip hop among other things.
Jetty Bones - Push Back / Nothing (Rise Records)
Based on the single “That’s All” from about a month ago I expected to like this but I did not expect to love it. Perfect blend of pop, pop punk and country and just hooks you with catchy tunes and really heart-wrenching moments. Been on repeat for me since Thursday night just cannot get enough.
While we’re on the subject just days before the album was released, a video for the track “Nothing” dropped as well. I think this is a good song to gauge whether or not you want to hear the whole record so give that a shot if you’re interested.
NOFX - Single Album (Fat Wreck Chords)
New one from punk legends NOFX, which was originally planned to be a double LP from what I’ve heard. (Explaining the title I suppose.) Provides an interesting, albeit sometimes cringey, view into Fat Mike’s world and I think is worth a listen.
Chayr - THE SONDER
Johnny Franck of Attack Attack! and more recently Bilmuri fame put out this new EP. The only prior context we had to this was that it was “Cottagecore” but it’s just vibey in ways that Bilmuri is. Also has a female vocalist accompanying Franck as well.
Northlane - 5G (UNFD)
Northlane came out with this remix project and you know what’s funny? I can’t really remember being too hot on any of the original versions of these tracks but all of a sudden they’re remixed, they’re in a new light, I’m digging them.
Of Mice & Men - Timeless (SHARPTONE Records)
OM&M have come out with a three track EP and are sort of stagnating as far as I’m concerned. If you liked Defy, if you liked EARTHANDSKY you are 100% going to like this, as frankly, it’s exactly the same style and there’s nothing really new or exciting here and with the amount of singles there’s only one new track as well.
pulses. - Speak Less
It’s here, the sequel to last year’s Speak it into Existence. True to the singles this is a series of fast and hard post-hardcore bangers that really sound like they belong on a stage in a club somewhere. Really can’t wait to hear this live and really urge you to check this out.
Billie Eilish - ilomilo (live) (Darkroom/Interscope)
New live track from Billie Eilish to promote a film and live album it seems? If you like the original track you’ll like this but it’s basically the same track through and through with the ambience of an audience. Almost not worth it to be honest.
Kero Kero Bonito - The Princess and the Clock
New music video and EP announcement from KKB, another electro-indie track. It’s good and true to its prequel project Civilisation I so if you liked that keep your eyes open come April.
Green Day - Here Comes the Shock
Green Day has been… arguably bad for a very long time. Aside from select tracks on the triple album Uno! Dos! Tre! Nothing has been salvageable since 21st Century Breakdown. In fact the album last year was laughable. So, when they release a remotely listenable track I figure I should cover it.
